The Mission Police K-9 Unit was started on January 12, 1990.  The K-9 program currently consists of one coordinator/trainer, three officers and three K-9's plus one reserve officer and K-9.  The K-9 officers are assigned take home vehicles and the dogs are taken home with the handlers. The K9 Services unit is a specialized unit within the Uniform Services division. The units are not assigned to geographical beats within the city and are available to respond to any emergency where a K9 team will be beneficial. The program is funded by the City of Mission and citizen contributions.  The Mission Police Department K-9 Teams primary goal is the recovery of evidence and tracking / searching for felony suspects.  Our K-9 unit is one of the most successful known by members of this profession.

The Police Service Dogs are used in a variety of situations.
