K9 Unit
The Mission Police Department also has a Police K-9 Unit which was started on January 12, 1990.The K-9 team currently consists of one coordinator / trainer, four officers and four K-9's. Each K-9 handler has a dog assigned to him and he has the responsibility of caring for the dog. The dog is taken home with the handler and upon being called out, they both respond to the scene of the crime. The K-9 Services unit is a specialized unit within the Uniform Service Bureau. This bureau is available to respond to any emergency where the K-9 will be beneficial. The K-9 ultimate goal is to recover evidence and track / search for felony suspects. The program is funded by the City of Mission and citizen contributions. Our K-9 unit is one of the most successful known by members of this profession.
