The Crime Scene Investigation Unit is comprised of 4 Evidence Technicians. They are responsible for the collection and preservation of evidence found at crime scenes. Crime Scene Technicians utilize various disciplines of forensic science in order to aid in the investigation and the prosecution of criminal cases. The technicians recieve specialized training and on the job training. Crime Scene Technicians look for latent fingerprints, tool markings and trace evidence. They also photograph, video tape and diagram crime scenes; and, they interpret bloodstain patterns, recover DNA evidence, perform narcotics field testing and give testimony in criminal court proceedings, The Crime Scene Investigation Unit has 2 Mobile Crime Scene Laboratories, which respond to crime scenes throughout the City of Mission 24 hours a day.The Crime Scene Technicians frequently operates in extremely harsh environments and are often exposed to gruesome crime scenes. At times the work is quite strenuous, and the successful CSI must be mentally and physically capable of overcoming the stress that is part of the profession.
